Woodshop Blues

Layla Dias & Adam Dias

This song was a fun Sunday project that I completed with my dad in his wood shop. We used tools and equipment found in his shop to create the percussion tracks in this song, and then we recorded ourselves jamming with acoustic stringed instruments in the shop.

When the covid-19 pandemic hit in early 2020 and the entire world was brought to a screeching halt and everyone was ordered to shelter in place, I decided I would write and record an album with my father, Adam Dias, in a home studio, so that's what we did. I used an old throw away recording of my dad's for the Ntro the album, and then my dad and I co wrote and independently wrote lyrics and music for the rest of the record. Everything you hear is either me, him, or programmed drums (yes, sadly we used programmed drums but at least it was sampled from real drums).

I really wanted this album to reflect the times we were living in at the time it was written. Songs like "time 4 change" and "loss 4 words" are both directly inspired by the culture of the pandemic and the traction that was gained for the black lives matter movement in 2020. Other songs like "war made easy" or "the truth" and "If the world stopped turnin" are all examples of some of the timeless, never ending issues we can't seem to move on from in the U.S. These are songs that have kept their relevancy before and after 2020.
